If I know the ones you mean then the problem with the household grommets is that they're really just meant to stop the cable chafing in the hole, they don't grip or provide any kind of weather seal so you're probably better off punching a hole into a blanking grommet in that situation.

Thanks for pointing me to autosparks starmag, I'll definitely get some stocks from them when I start the build-up on the estate, I've had some wiring bits from them once before. That selection covers a lot of situations but I'm pretty sure there are more types of grommet than that on a mini! hopefully not everything on the estate will be perished to hell like on the last one!
