In Search of White Quartz Countertops

I've always dreamed about having white quartz countertops. Living in our home for six years, I’ve desired new countertops since day one. Actually, even sooner since the first time I saw them. Despite choosing them ourselves, the countertops didn't meet our expectations.

In the design center, we chose a black granite called Brazilian Black. The sample had delicate gray specks, but the actual installation lacked those specks and was almost solid black.

Believing it was a mistake, we had our cousin Missy, a granite fabricator, examine them. She confirmed it was Brazilian Black; each slab varies as it's natural stone. Brazilian Black slabs sourced at that time were more solid compared to older ones.

We've lived with it for six long years. Keeping it clean is an unending task. It shows every crumb, fingerprint, and smudge. Even with granite polish, every streak is visible. The three pendant lights over the island highlight every flaw. Photos cannot capture the full extent of the issue; it's much worse in person.

I knew we'd eventually replace them, but I didn’t realize how challenging finding a replacement would be. Over the years, visiting local stone warehouses like AGM Imports left me overwhelmed by the options.

One certainty was wanting white countertops. While I love marble’s look, it’s impractical for kitchens since it stains easily. There is no true white granite, so I focused on white quartz countertops.

Apart from the kitchen, I sought white quartz countertops for the bathrooms too. The two downstairs bathrooms have dark countertops and the girls' bathrooms upstairs have cultured marble.

White Quartz Countertops for the Kitchen

Recently, I enlisted my friend Wendy's help at AGM to narrow my choices. We listed 10 to 12 options I liked, then narrowed those down to four: White Mirror, Silver Moon, Cloud Cover, and Arabescato Fonte.

White Mirror, being the most affordable, features sparkles that reflect colors from our glass backsplash.

Silver Moon has a small swirly pattern with a slightly grainy background.

Cloud Cover sports the boldest pattern with large veins.

Arabescato Fonte resembles marble with a natural gray swirly pattern.

Robbie immediately eliminated White Mirror due to the sparkle. Silver Moon was also removed after discovering it was discontinued, and I felt Cloud Cover's bold pattern might be too much. Arabescato Fonte’s subtle pattern seemed perfect.

Missy gave us a quote for Arabescato Fonte, and the price was surprisingly high, almost double our budget. We need three slabs, one solely for our large kitchen island. Despite the cost, Robbie didn’t mind as he was tired of hearing me complain about the black counters.

We hope to be your supplier and partner with competitive pricing and timely delivery. sailquartz

White Quartz Countertops for the Bathrooms

To manage costs, we chose a more affordable option for the bathrooms, requiring another trip to AGM. We found two options: Arabescato Pearl and Teltos Carrara.

Both have a primarily white appearance with small patterns. Arabescato Pearl’s pattern is surface-level, while Teltos Carrara has a deeper pattern like marble. Comparatively, Teltos Carrara (top) and Arabescato Pearl (bottom) are shown below:

I ultimately chose Teltos Carrara for its natural stone look.

Complicating matters, I found two other kitchen options: Opal White and Statuary Gioia. Opal White, similar to Arabescato Fonte, has warmer undertones with gray and brown swirls.

Statuary Gioia features a bright white background with bold lines. Both were priced similar to Arabescato Fonte.

Finding the Ideal White Quartz Countertop

With samples at home for over two weeks, making a decision was difficult. Visualizing a small sample in the kitchen was challenging.

Seeking reinforcement, I invited my sister Ellen to AGM with cabinet, backsplash, and paint samples. Below shows our cabinet and wall color (Sherwin Williams Big Chill) with Arabescato Fonte, Opal White, and Cloud Cover:

Ellen disliked Arabescato Fonte’s cool undertone, sensing a lavender shade under certain lights. Initially scared, I realized I didn't want counters that looked purple.

Another week passed without making a decision, prompting Robbie to call Missy for help. She rejected Opal White for looking dingy and Cloud for its "computer generated" lines. We also axed Cloud Cover for its navy blue veins, clashing with our seafoam green backsplash. This left Arabescato Fonte, part of my initial list.

Missy highlighted its harmony with our gray walls and stainless steel appliances. Despite its cool tone, it coordinated under various lights. Convinced, I chose Arabescato Fonte as our ideal white quartz countertop!

I'll share more pictures once installed!
