Choosing the Right Industrial Press
Choosing the Right Industrial Press
In order to choose the right type of press, you first need to know if the machine will be used for:
You will also need to have a fairly accurate idea of the finished dimensions of the workpiece to be formed, including the dimensions of the parts handled for punching or riveting. This knowledge is crucial for correctly choosing the worktable dimensions and the press opening height.
You must then determine the required machine tonnage, which depends on the material type, its thickness, and the type of stamping to be performed (e.g., the stamping depth or cutting perimeter). The machine tonnage is generally measured in kilonewtons (kN). Presses range from 5 kN (0.51 metric tons) to 500,000 kN (50,000 metric tons).
Production requirements should also be taken into consideration. For one-off needs or small series, you might prefer manual, mechanical, hydraulic, or electric presses, which also come in portable models. For mass production, it is crucial to determine if single striking or repeated striking is needed. If the latter, consider transfer presses that allow for fully automatic consecutive striking.
All these criteria will help you choose the most suitable technology for your installation, be it hydraulic, mechanical, or pneumatic.
