Manufactured by Miami Cordage, nylon 12-strand plait braid provides high strength, high elongation, and excellent abrasion resistance in a single braid construction. The torque-free braided design offers easy handling and prevents kinks and hockles. Nylon 12-strand plait can be spliced easily using either a “tuck” splice or a “buried” splice.
Compliance with the above specifications is based on testing according to the Cordage Institute Standard Testing Methods for Fiber Rope and/or ASTM D-4268 Standard Methods of Testing Fiber Ropes.

Tensile strengths: Are approximate averages for new, unused ropes. To estimate the minimum tensile strength of a new rope, reduce the approximate average by 15% (Cordage Institute defines minimum tensile strength as two standard deviations below the average tensile strength of the rope).
Benefits of Nylon Rope
Nylon rope is highly valued for three main characteristics: strength, stretchiness, and UV resistance. Its strength is self-evident, making it perfect for docklines. The stretchiness is beneficial because when your boat surges against the dockline, nylon dissipates the load by stretching. This can prevent the line from breaking and reduces impact on cleats and bitts, similar to the way an airbag mitigates impact in a car crash.
Nylon's resistance to UV damage is another key benefit, especially for docklines that are constantly exposed to sunlight. Nylon ropes last significantly longer in such environments compared to other types of ropes.
