A threaded bushing also called hex bushing, is a thread reducer used in mechanical, piping and plumbing applications, to connect pipes or fittings of different sizes. The Hex head shape allows for easier tightening and loosening with a socket or wrench, making these bushings ideal for applications where they may need to be removed or tightened. These threaded pipe reducers are designed with larger external threads and reduced internal threads, allowing for connections between pipe fittings of different sizes. The larger male thread of the stainless steel bushing is designed screw into the larger pipe or fitting, while the smaller female thread screws onto the smaller pipe or fitting. In effect these bushings reduce the thread of a female threaded pipe fitting. Conversely they can also be used to increase the thread size of a male threaded fitting. In other words, these pipe bushings are able to connect a female thread and a male thread of a reduced size.
